![]() And it's been modified, so it has a different configuration than your standard off-the-assembly-line Centaur class. And that brings its own challenges to play against. And everybody on the ship comes in with some sort of baggage about that, whether they were there for the disaster that took place, or in the case of our First Officer, is joining the ship to replace somebody who died in that situation. Six months before the game starts, this ship went through a catastrophe of its own. Those ships were built very quickly for war. The USS Resolute is a modified Centaur class, which we saw during the Dominion War in that big arc on Deep Space Nine. People want to know the nitty gritty about these ships. Are you going to reveal more about it?ĭan Martin: Oh, you're definitely gonna get to firsthand look at the outside of it. The starship that you've mentioned is the USS Resolute, and details about that ship had been kind of under wraps for the last few months. To be on the bridge of a starship and to be in the lower decks or in engineering and just discover things for yourself as a fan. As opposed to just one kind of thing.Īndrew Grant: To the point of immersion, we try and take the story off-rails as much as we can, and let you just explore the environment. So we're gonna give you all of those experiences in the way that you would experience on a TV show. We looked at the great Star Trek movies or a great season of television like Strange New Worlds, and all the different types of experiences of the camaraderie, the challenges you face with command, with mysterious situations, and exploration.Īlso, some phaser fights, and you get to fly a shuttle from time to time, and puzzles, and discovering strange new worlds. It's not like we're taking a shooting game and just skinning it with Starfleet uniforms and phasers. We looked at this as an opportunity for this type of game where we can give you a bunch of different experiences. How do you respond to that? This sounds like it hits all the sweet spots of what living in the Star Trek universe would actually be like.ĭan Martin: That's what we wanted to do. I think as Star Trek fans, we all fantasize about living on a starship and what it's like day-to-day before having a crisis come up. And also, you're gonna be making choices as that engineer that change the state of the world that impact what the First Officer is going to be contending with in these high-stakes situations. Which is an interesting dynamic.ĭan Martin: Choices as the First Officer will then have an impact on what you're doing, as the engineer say, out on the hull of the ship and in an emergency. You're making choices that can ripple through to your other POV character, as well. And then there's another playable character on the lower decks, Carter Diaz, and very similarly, you're shaping those relationships. You really get to shape the dynamics and your relationship with the captain. ![]() How did I interact with this character that I have developed a relationship with over the course of however many hours you get to play?Īndrew Grant: Yeah, and the emotional stakes are real. So I think those are the things that people generally remember about these games. You haven't brought them into your circle when you had the opportunity. But also, the most impactful choices will be the ones about whether somebody is going to ultimately turn their back on you or not because you've rejected them, you haven't treated them right. ![]() It's life or death stakes, life or death choices. (laughs) But you're gonna make choices that will decide the fates of your crew, and of groups of people. Or in another one, you're not going to retire to become a purveyor of ice cream in a truck in the 20th century.ĭan Martin: There's always room for a sequel. And so you're not going to end up necessarily living on a planet with mermaids or going to the Mirror Universe. At the same time, we're telling a story that has a general arc, a beginning, middle and end. Theoretically, can you push it to the extreme? Can Jara start a war and end up in prison like Michael Burnham in Star Trek: Discovery?ĭan Martin: There are opportunities to take some really big swings in this game as your player character. ![]()
